In Color, Balance, bodily artifacts removed from fashion photography become the source material for paintings made in Photoshop. Through subtle layers of digital color and pushed pixels, remnants of the figure begin to dissolve into the surrounding field. Color becomes spatial, shifting the edge of the body and blurring the line between abstraction and figuration. Titles such as No cookie cutter and You’ve lost all of my shape often come from workplace comments made about commercial photographs I have edited, carrying traces of the labor and language embedded in the image.
