Eidolons, 2023
In Eidolons, Southworth delves into the spectral and ephemeral nature of digital art—a realm where the intangible takes form and the transient reaches a kind of permanence. The series draws upon the ancient Greek notion of the eidolon: a phantom, a spiritual double, an idealized image, or perhaps a beautiful fallacy.
These works consist of still and dynamic digital portraits that evolve gradually over time, their movements almost ghostly, their presence both elusive and captivating. Each piece becomes a vibrant interplay of color and form—an ethereal echo of human essence, a digital double that lingers in the virtual plane.
